Help: DepositKit

Setup in short

1. Open the app and pick the countries you sell drinks to. Check the amount and VAT mode of each.

2. Mark which products are drinks and in which container (can, plastic bottle, glass). Multi-packs: set the number of containers per variant.

3. Place a test order and check that checkout shows the deposit. The Health page lists anything that is missing.

Which countries are supported?

Countries with a live deposit return system in the EU/EEA, for example Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Poland, Ireland, Portugal and Malta. The United Kingdom and Greece are listed but cannot be turned on until their schemes start. Amounts are presets; confirm them for your business.

Discounts

Deposit lines are regular order lines, so a store-wide automatic discount (for example 10% off the whole order) can apply to them and lower the deposit. The merchant is responsible for this. Exclude the "Deposit" product from such discounts, or use discounts on drinks collections instead.

Selling to other countries

The deposit follows the country the customer has selected in the store (market), not the shipping address. If a customer picks one country and ships to another, the deposit of the selected country is used.

POS and draft orders

The deposit is added at online checkout only. Point of sale and draft orders are not supported, so add the deposit by hand there.

Other bundle apps

A store can have one cart transform per app, and the order between apps is not controlled. If another app that changes cart lines (bundles, kits) acts on the same products, check a test order. The app only changes plain drink lines and leaves others alone.

VAT

In most countries the deposit is outside VAT; in some it is taxed at the drink's rate. The presets follow our research, which is not legal or tax advice. Please confirm with your accountant.

Reduced VAT rates on drinks

Deposits use the tax rate of the "Deposit" product. If a drink is taxed at a reduced rate and its deposit should follow it, you need your own tax override for the deposit product in Shopify.

The Deposit product

Do not delete or archive the "Deposit" product. Without it no deposit can be charged. If that happens, open the Health page and use Repair.

If you uninstall the app, the unlisted "Deposit" product stays in your catalogue. You may delete it after uninstalling.

Free plan and Pro

Free: up to 50 orders with a deposit per month. Pro: EUR 9 per month with a 14-day free trial and no order limit.
